SANI 2 C

The SA Rugby Legends Association cycling team did themselves proud at the recent Sani 2 C Mountain Bike Challenge. In all some 2800 cyclists took part in what has become one of the most popular events on the cycling calendar.

Of the 2800 cyclists participating in the race 1400 entered the Adventure Race, which was the social ride that the SARLA team participated in. The team, which was sponsored by BoE Private Clients, consisted of five pairs of riders with old Natal halfback mates Henry Coxwell and Craig Jamieson teaming up with former ‘Boks’ Marius Hurter and Joel Stransky, Adrian Garvey and Wayne Fyvie, Trevor Halstead and Elmo van de Spuy and John ‘Slugger’ Slade and Dylan Jackson from the eLan Property Group.

Riding in support of the Celebrate Life Campaign the team enjoyed the camaraderie as though they were once again on tour - indeed things don’t change even as the boys get older. The determination, the fire in the belly and the challenge to conquer all still remains very much part of their make up.

The race registration took place on Tuesday 2 March with the riders mounting their saddles for take off on Wednesday 3 March from the Underberg Primary School to tackle the first leg of the race, which was an 82km ride to MacKenzie Country Club in Ixopo. Day two’s ride was a 96km trip to Roservres Farm in Jollivett which followed on to day three with a 71km trip to Scottburgh High School completing a grueling but enjoyable 250km journey of fun and true camaraderie the most important ingredients in modern day sport.

Full marks to the man who started it all, farmer Graham Hill from the Underberg area, Craig Wapnick and the whole team that contributed in making this year's event the incredible success that it was
