Stellenbosch Sports Academy Opening
The Stellenbosch Academy of Sport opened its doors on Wednesday the 11th of January 2012. Dale Santon, Mike Barr, Jesse Claassen and Gerrit Hickman of the South African Rugby Legends Association were privileged enough to attend the opening. The attendees first attended a rugby game between the Stellenbosch University rugby team (Maties) and Saracens rugby team from England. Maties won an entertaining game, played in hot weather conditions, 28 – 26.
The event was attended by a host of rugby elite and SARU officials, like Mervin Green, Rassie Erasmus, Peter Jooste, Paul Treu, Hennie Bekker Snr and Piet Heymans and the Saracens rugby team. The SARLA representatives used the opportunity to network with all the dignitaries and to promote the aims and objectives of the organisation.
Morné Du Plessis and Johan Rupert officially opened the doors of the R100 million rand facility, aimed at boosting WP and South African Rugby. The three storey facility is equipped with two top class gyms, a specialised culinary team from the Southern Sun Hotel group, a pool and medical facilities. The facility is also equipped with rooms to accommodate the South African Springbok Sevens Team, who will use the facility as its training base.
As for the evening itself, the guests were entertained by a live band, guitarists, and the food prepared by the chefs from the Southern Sun Hotel group was of the highest quality.
It was truly an enjoyable evening and SARLA were privileged to attend the opening of a facility set to change the sporting landscape in South Africa.
