Western Cape Legends

On 20 August 2008 SARLA Western Cape went live again!!!

We had an extremely successful clinic at Spine Road High School in Mitchell's Plain, but this time for Primary School kids. Their enthusiasm was contagious and we had lots of laughs and some comments were hilarious. However, Mike Bayly stuck to the task and the 10 Legends assisted wherever possible. We noticed that the Legends where somewhat quiet, but we linked it to the rugby game that lay ahead.

As can be seen from the pictures, everybody had a ball. There is still nothing wrong in the skills department, but fitness seems to be somewhat lacking. The opponents, Durbanville Old Boys, when scoring their first try looked like the initial favourites, but alas, the Legends took count and started playing together brilliantly in front of a good crowd. Passes were flipped and somebody was just always there to take the ball. Niel Penrose scored a couple of tries at speed and it was brilliant to watch. The boys ran out a 9 to 3 try victory.

After the match we were treated with two sheep on a spit and old stories were shared amongst each other. What a great day to end this year's formal activities organised by SARLA Western Cape.

A very big thank you to Durbanville Rugby Club for their hospitality and the spirit in which everything was organised and shared, as well as their support and joining in the fun. Thanks also to the non-playing Legends who showed up, their support is really appreciated. Finally, a big thank you to the Legends who attended the clinic and made it a huge success and those who played and entertained in the way only they know how.
