The British & Irish Lions are coming!
SARLA is hosting the second edition of the #RugbyUnites Webinar Series, featuring two giants of World Rugby.
Join South African World Cup winning Captain John Smit and England’s most capped International player, Jason Leonard (OBE), as they discuss the most unique and exciting rugby tour that only comes to our shores once every 12 years – the British & Irish Lions. It’s all in anticipation of the Lions returning to South Africa following one of the most epic tours back in 2009.
Smit was the second Springbok to play 100 tests, eventually going on to play for his country 111 times, captaining them on 83 occasions. He led South Africa to Rugby World Cup Glory in 2007, and through one of the most successful times in Springbok Rugby history in 2009, when the Springboks won both the British and Irish Lions and Tri Nations series.
In a career spanning 14 years, Leonard is England’s most capped international and only centurion with 114 caps. He went on three British and Irish Lions Tours, earning five caps in 1993, 1997 and 2001, and was part of the victorious British and Irish Lions Squad in SA in 1997, who beat the Springboks 2-1.
Leonard is one of the most colourful characters of the game and was recently appointed as Chairman of the upcoming 2021 British and Irish Lions Tour to South Africa.
He is also very involved in Southern Africa through his Atlas Foundation, which contributes financially to two of SARLA’s VUKA Rugby regions in the Western Cape.
Catch these two Legends of the game on the SARLA Webinar Series #2, on Tuesday 25 August at 8pm.
