This coming weekend SARLA will be out and about across the country, not only with our Vuka Rugby matches at 11 rugby unions, but two special appearances in KZN and the Western Cape.

Our first stop this weekend is in Mossel Bay on Friday May 26 where we will be holding a rugby clinic for the Mossel Bay Vuka rugby school teams and an evening fundraising gala dinner for the Mossel Bay Rugby Club as well as our Vuka programme in this region.

Supported by the SWD Union, the clinic will be held at the D’Almedia Sports grounds and the young players will have the benefit of a collective 57 years of Springbok rugby experience as they legends focus on skills development at the clinic.

78 year old Mannetjies Roux, who debuted for the Boks in 1960, will be on the sidelines offering his advice along with former Boks Helgard Muller, Dale Santon. Kabamba Floors (who hails from Oudsthoorn) and World Rugby Hall of Fame inductee, arguably SA’s greatest centre, Danie Gerber.

Later that evening they will be joined at the gala dinner at the Mossel Bay Civic Centre by 2007 Rugby World Cup winner Johann Muller, who is now based in the region working on his family farm.

The focus of the evening will be on our legendary centres in “The Evening of The Centres”. Centre stage will be three of our legends in that position - Mannetjies, Danie and Helgard who will share their rugby stories from the different decades that they have played in the sport.

They will also encourage guests to support the auction of rugby memorabilia with all the funds raised going towards the Helitac Mossel Bay Rugby club and Vuka rugby.

Back in Durban, SARLA CEO Stefan Terblanche will lead a field of legends and other sporting celebs to support cricket legend Mike Proctor’s annual SAPS Widows and Orphans Golf Day at Mount Edgcombe Country Club. The annual event helps raises funds for those families affected by police men and women who are lost on the job. MC, television personality Dan Nicholl will look after proceedings off the course at the prize giving dinner.

Just along the road, at the College Rovers grounds, the British Army rugby team will play a match against the club’s first XV, hosted by both the Cell C Sharks and SA Rugby Legends. Kick off is at 6.30pm.

On Saturday May 27, SARLA travels to Merchiston Preparatory School in Pietermaritzburg to join in the festivities of the 2017 Spur Merchiston Tag Rugby Festival. The festival has become the biggest Tag Rugby festival in the world, with over 500 young players from around the province participating. Coach Ian McIntosh will be joined by Legends Hentie Maartens, Tonderai Chavhanga, Neil Cole and Wayne Munn for a coaching clinic and they will also take part in a fun Tag rugby match against a Boarder Masters team.
