Another exciting and fun day of golf was had at the 2018 DSV SA Rugby Legends Invitational at Bosch Hoek Golf Club.
Sunshine greeted the guests as they arrived, driven to the picturesque KZN Midlands golf course courtesy of Springbok Atlas. Welcomed by Bosch Hoek owner Ivan Clark, the day’s proceedings were officially opened by MC Derek Watts as Legends were drawn to host the various four balls.
Conditions were good on the course as the shotgun start got underway, with a light breeze coming through the valley. Recent good rainfalls meant the fairways were lush and the greens played a little faster than expected.
As the afternoon wore on though, thunderclouds loomed large and the heavens opened but play continued, not the best weather to play in but with an array of exciting prizes on offer at the clubhouse, there was much to play for.
Taking overall third place this year was SA Rugby Legend Henry “Lem” Honiball’s Tugela Grain Team, consisting of himself, Paddy Geraty, Trevor Livesy and Greg McBay.
Second place went to the ever-competitive Pat Symcox along with the Swanlite Lighting team of Gareth Jones, Paul Els and Barry Hall.
With an impressive 99 points, Wayne Munn’s Fits Rugby Academy team each walked away with the top prize of a midweek stay for two at Springbok Lodge, a magnum of wine from Ken Forrester and the floating trophy. Joining him on the podium was SA Rugby Legend Wayne Fyvie, Darren Munn and Stephan Bothma.
Individual prizes went to:
Warren Kirsten: | Nearest to the pin 5th / 14th |
Pieter Dixon: | Nearest to the pin 7th / 16th |
Wayne Munn: | Longest drive 6th & 15th |
Trevor Livesy: | Longest drive 18th (Guest) |
Jean de Villiers: | Longest drive 18th (Legend) |
Taking the individual prize on 48 points and winning the much sought after Citizen Eco Drive watch was last year’s winner Stephan Bothma.
To round off the evening, SARLA coach Ian McIntosh put former Springbok Captains Gary Teichmann, John Smit and Jean de Villiers through their paces talking rugby, much to the delight of the guests, with funny and interesting insights into their rugby days as well as what they are up to now and current affairs.
Another successful day out at Bosch Hoek, thanks to our title sponsor DSV, British Airways for flying our Legends in, ABInBev and all our sponsors who generously supported the day as well as the SA Rugby Legends that came to join in the fun.
