Johannesburg, 3 May 2022 – The South African Rugby Legends Association (SARLA) has joined relief efforts for the people in KZN affected by the intense floods. Prompted by SARLA Chairman Gavin Varejes and with assistance from partners SA Harvest, The Domino Foundation, The Cell-C Sharks, DSV Group, CMH Group and SARLA’s headline sponsors Cell-C, SARLA distributed 500 family food parcels to those left destitute by the devastating floods. The parcels were delivered on Friday, 29 April and collectively, they will feed 3000 people.

The food parcels were distributed among the communities of Asherville and Jacobs with the aid of SA Harvest’s established distribution network. The CMH Group also made six vehicles available for volunteer transport between both distribution venues.

Gavin Varejes comments, “Thank you to all the great people that came on board for their amazing interest and the much-needed support shown for our KZN Flood Relief Initiative. KZN has been through a lot in the past year and the recent floods were catastrophic for so many in our great province, who are still battling the after effects of COVID and the recent riots.

Douglas Craigie Stevenson, CEO of Cell-C adds: “It’s truly heart-warming every time we see brands and prominent South Africans pulling together to help those who need it most. The floods in KZN have wreaked havoc, leaving so many people vulnerable and in dire need of assistance. We hope to see more South Africans stepping in to lend a hand”

SARLA continues to seek out new ways to provide flood relief assistance. If you or your company would like to be involved, or for more information on SARLA and other charitable initiatives, please visit: http://www.sarugbylegends.com
