A packed Paarl Boys’ High School main field saw the World Schools Rugby Festival wrap up their week-long event with the SA Rugby Legends vs Boishaai Legends match on Saturday April 7.

The SA Rugby Legends were led by former Springbok De Wet Barry, (a Paarl Gim Old Boy), with former Springbok Captain and Paarl Boys High Old Boy, Corne Krige, captaining the Boishaai Legends, who were led out onto the field by another Boishaai Legend, Mannetjies Roux.

SA Rugby Legends flyhalf Monty Dumond got proceedings off to a fine start with a try and conversion putting the SA Rugby Legends ahead 7 – 0. Boishaai Legends answered with two tries, only one successfully converted, making it 7 -12.

Just before half time, a try by Frikkie Welsh and a successful conversion by Monty Dumond  gave the SA Rugby Legends a 14 – 12 lead going into the break.

Refreshed and motivated going into the second half, Conrad Jantjes made an impressive dash to the try line which Monty Dumond converted putting the SA Legends ahead 21 -12.

The score stayed this way until the dying moments of the game when the Boishaai Legends went over for a converted try, finishing the game a very close 21 – 19, going the way of the SA Rugby Legends.

Congratulations to Paarl Boys High and Carinat Sports Marketing for presenting an impressive showcase of international school’s rugby with all our South Africa schools certainly doing us proud in al the matches they played.

We would also like to thank all the Rugby Legends who gave of their time (and bodies) to play in this match.
