SA Rugby Legends head to Durban to flip burgers for #Rugbyunites This weekend, on Sunday, 18 October, the South African Rugby Legends Association (SARLA) brings Durban-based Rugby Legends together with weFEEDsa, the Food and Beverage Company and Checkers, to pitch in and flip burgers that will be distributed to hungry people in and around Durban at various locations.

The day will see a whopping 10 000 burgers distributed in one day at various weFEEDsa venues across KZN, with Rugby Legends and weFEEDsa volunteers all manning the grills. The Food and Beverage Company, having heard about the work #RugbyUnites was doing, donated 10 000 burger patties, while Checkers will be sponsoring 10 000 hamburger rolls and packets of chips. Through weFEEDsa a bottle of cool drink and water will also be distributed with the burgers.

SARLA’s #RugbyUnites has travelled the country, with the help of headline sponsors Cell C and Richmark Holdings and distributed over 10,000 food parcels across several major South African provinces. #RugbyUnites was established to help people negatively affected by COVID-19, and has gained major momentum since its launch as lockdown began. And it continues to pick up pace.

Zahid Fakey, CEO of weFEEDsa says, “weFEEDsa was created as a means to help those who need it most during lockdown. And we have been overwhelmed by the support we have received from the SA Rugby legends during this challenging time. Seeing our volunteers work alongside these great players is testament to the fact that we can mobilise to make a difference when it is most needed. Thank you to all who will be helping us on Sunday”.

Gavin Varejes, SARLA President and CEO of Richmark Holdings says, “Rugby Unites has taken on a life of its own. And as we continue to take it around the country, we couldn’t be happier that companies like the Food and Beverage Company and Checkers are standing up and noticing what is being done. We are extremely grateful to our sponsors and all the volunteers who will be helping us bring much-needed food to people who have felt the economic effects of the pandemic”.
